Pimped-out BMW X-Challenge!

Customising
a XChallenge the Stellenbosch way
Many people regarded the
recently discontinued G650 XChallenge as one of the most underrated
motorcycles on the market. It is nimble, powerful enough and the
engine is a proven unit that is as close to bullet proof as they
come.
But why didn't they sell better? It was probably due to
a combination of high price and a few other issues like a small 9.5
litre fuel tank. It was therefore not surprising that the remaining
XChallenges sold like hot cakes the moment their prices were
reduced.
Towards the end of last year the guys at Donford
Motorrad in Stellenbosch got the idea of customising a XChallenge,
using various aftermarket items. In the end, they sold the bike for
R100 000 – but we understood that such a price didn't
even cover the cost of bike and the parts fitted.
Imagine if
BMW built a similar bike to this one? With its light weight and long
fuel range it must surely rate as one of the ultimate adventure bikes
money can buy.
Here's a list of the main modifications and
parts fitted:
Wheels: Maxxis
6006 tyres Bridgestone UHD enduro tubes
Frame
and protection: Touratech engine
guard Touratech Rallye Fairing BMW frame/tank protector BMW
engine-casing save BMW luggage rack BMW hand guards
Fuel
tank: Acerbis 16 litre long-range
fuel tank. Combined with 9.5 litre stock tank, it allows a range of
approximately 650 km
Engine and
final drive: BMC Air filter Leo
Vince X3 Silencer Sunstar Sprockets and DID Gold series chain with
a 16/48 final drive
Lighting: Hella
Xenon HID light Hella Elipsoidal light
Suspension
upgrades: Öhlins race-spec rear
suspension
The bike was sold to a guy from Gauteng who
proceeded to ride it home in one go. Respect!
